Like Harvey Dent's Coin-Two Shows Starting at 6pm Sharp! Issues: Fringe Finale; JJ Abrams Gets Star Wars; The Industry of Lying; The End of the PC & Daryll B's Latest Pulp Culture Blog

Hello to all our friends, fiends and consistent listenership! Welcome to another fact finding mission courtesy of the Double Feature/Grindhouse edition of Afronerd Radio. Check for Captain Kirk, Daryll B. and Dburt this Sunday at 6pm on The Comic Shoppe where we will deliberate on the following pop cultural issues: perhaps the biggest news to date-director, J.J. Abrams just signed on to direct the next Star Wars installment (so does this make him the HNIC-Head Nerd In Charge? Star Wars and Star Trek?); the gang finally dissects the Fringe finale; What is "phase two" (and three) of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and how does Dr. Strange fit in and NOT Black Panther? ; the Robotech live action gets a director and lastly, what would a proposed Quentin Tarantino directed Luke Cage film have looked like with Laurence Fishburne as its star?

And batting second, we have Afronerd featuring Captain Kirk airing after The Shoppe at 7pm. Join Dburt and The Captain as they wax on the following topics: Lying as an industry- with Lance Armstrong, Beyonce-gate and Manti Te'o being the new CEOs; American Idol gets sued for alleged racism toward 9 Black disqualified contestants; Brown vs Black in California-a Black family gets terrorized by a Latino gang and lastly, and does 2013 spell the end of the traditional PC? The commentators at Beast TV seem to think so. Call the hosts live at 646-915-9620.

Check out the latest blog entry, courtesy of The Shoppe's Daryll B:

Let me help everyone with this week's Afronerd LinkBlog. The ending of Fringe was just about perfect for me. I knew that all of my answers were not going to be answered in 1hour and 20 minutes... but I got glimpses of the alternate Earth, Olivia's powers returned briefly, a "noble" sacrifice, more guerilla fringe case uses, Broyles having his most bada$$ scene ever in the show, Peter using his brain, Astrid looking cuter as ever WHILE proving she can handle a pistol, another curious brain teaser between father and son.. AND the return of the cow! *Phew!* Now to the links....

-Leave it to Adam WarRock to take a major argument/topic we had on last week's ComicShoppe and boil it down to a blog with a 3-4 minute rap....

http://www.adamwarrock.com/?p=2991

I can't believe my rants just got owned by WarRock AGAIN!

-Heidi McDonald's Comics Beat had a correspondent at The Black Comic Book Festival we were telling you folks on the last show.....

http://comicsbeat.com/on-the-scene-the-black-comic-book-festival-2013/

Mannnnn I am really regretting finding out about this so late.

-I know AfroNerd, Adam WarRock, and others don't know about getting into the series buuuuuuuuuut...

http://www.wired.com/geekmom/2013/01/doctor-who-all-eleven-doctors/

...as a long time Whovian, this...THIS! A million times over! All 11 incarnations of The Doctor... most of the companions... My senses will be going off the nerd scale into the red! Speaking of which....

http://spinoff.comicbookresources.com/2013/01/23/doctor-whos-alex-kingston-joins-arrow-as-dinah-lance/

Alex Kingston! Spoilers! So now Arrow is going to be must watch for her AND John Barrowman....

-To go along with my analysis of the Fringe Series Ender, Graeme McMilian does his own thinking into what characteristics ends a beloved series well....

http://spinoff.comicbookresources.com/2013/01/19/what-makes-a-fine-farewell-to-favorite-shows/

I'm sure we all have our opinions as to which shows have pulled off the groovy landing but as usual, commenters have most of the controversial ones listed....

-Anyone got 5 million bucks laying around?

http://robot6.comicbookresources.com/2013/01/original-1966-batmobile-sells-for-4-62-million-at-auction/

All I need it for are Fridays and Saturday Nights... You can rock it the rest of the week... Promise!

-Kelly Thompson compares Brian Wood's February all-female X-Men book to an attempt by Marvel made waaaaaay back shortly after she began "She Has No Head"

http://goodcomics.comicbookresources.com/2013/01/21/she-has-no-head-mission-accomplished/#more-131226

I trust Brian Wood's characterization and I think that Kelly's reasons here are solid. Either way, I am giving this book and Cullen Bunn's Fearless Defenders my money for the first arc at least... Speaking of Mr Bunn...

Congrats on the pilot being picked up by NBC Dude!

-Let me pull back the veil on one of the things we love doing behind the scenes at AfroNerd. We love reading articles in which creators get involved with fans about hot button topics. This gives you insight into motivations and passions of said creators....

http://robot6.comicbookresources.com/2013/01/quote-of-the-day-what-makes-superman-unique/

So in this article we not only get Mark Waid's insight into his visions of Superman but we get J. Michael Straczynski's as well. Folks may not like the directions of the writers but you can see what each writer is shooting for with their Superman stories and how they see Clark Kent/Superman.

-A must have for all sci-fi fans....

http://www.411mania.com/movies/columns/268730

go past the vampire rankings... below that you have a complete horror/sci-fi/fantasy release listing along with several of the trailers...-Old Article buuuuuuttttt.....

http://www.cnn.com/2012/12/26/showbiz/celebrity-news-gossip/spidey-700-controversy/

Especially noteworthy is CNN's slideshow of the most "controversial" books to hit the mainstream.... I think we can all name a few more that I guess fell a little short of the mainstream (Northstar's, Renee Montoya's, Batwoman's coming out issues, Northstar's marriage, Punisher turning black, Kyle Rayner's GF being refrigderated, etc...)

-This is where AfroNerd will want to take out Chris Sims in a back alley....

http://www.comicsalliance.com/2013/01/18/ask-chris-137-aquaman-super-friends-justice-league/

Talk about lowering the boom on a character. Sims really laid the smackdown here....

-Good Luck to one of my favorite webcartoonists, Danielle Corsetto, as she tackles the popular "Adventure Time" cartoon for a BOOM! graphic novel

http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=43132

I can't recommend her Girls With Slingshots webcomic enough....

-I'll end this linkblog with a double helping of Brett White as first he refers to an issue of X-Force I always refer to when folks don't give Cannonball his due...

http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=43322

Take that Xavier and X-Force haters! Then he responds to the Jimmy/Jenny Olsen "switch" in the upcoming Man Of Steel...

http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=43338!

That Zach Snyder is certainly kicking the table over in regards of Supes' supporting cast. A Black Perry White... A Female Olsen sidekick...whoa... DC Stoic diehards may be going grey as we speak....

-As usual, right before I send the linkblog in, 3 more items caught my eye. First, Tom Bondurant checks in with what DC's 52 needs....

http://robot6.comicbookresources.com/2013/01/grumpy-old-fan-the-new-52-needs-a-new-52/

Interesting indeed...

-Secondly, The Line It Is Drawn Folks at CSBG checks in with their "aft-apocalypse" takes on familiar heroes...

http://goodcomics.comicbookresources.com/2013/01/24/the-line-it-is-drawn-123-post-apocalyptic-comic-book-characters/

DUDE! The Xum Yukinori "Forgotten Titans/Crisis" piece kicks so much booty, my eyes are watering!

-Lastly, proof that nothing in entertainment is ever, EVER dead...

http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=43371

The J.J. Abrams interstellar takeover has begun! Watch both Star Trek and Star Wars diehards go nuts now....

Until next week AfroNerd Readers, Keep Fantasizing!
