For Afronerd Radio this Thursday-Are We Giving Black Celebrities a Pass? and Week in Review continues.....
Well The R. Kelly trial may or may not go forward for the umpteenth time but I was inclinded to talk about this anyway for Thursday due to tonight's Meet the Faith show, courtesy of BET. This particular episode which was hosted by Dr. Ian Smith (also of VH-1's Celebrity Fit Club) attempted to analyze the perception that the Black community gives their African-American celebrities/notables a pass for aberrant and oftentimes criminal behavior. The show also talked about who in the White community has a "ghetto" card and why. So let's expand on this topic-R. Kelly continues to go platinum with Black women still dancing to his records in spite of his alleged fondness for golden showers and little girls of color. Congressman William Jefferson channeling former Mayor Marion Barry gets re-elected although corruption looms overhead. Well you guys get the picture. And tonight's show was pretty explosive and festive so we will wrap that up as well. Stop by on Thursday night at 9pm eastern and call in! It's live...remember it's 646-915-9620 or IM/email-afronerdradio@yahoo at afronerd radio dot com. Be there and...well you know the rest. Oh and one more thing-Huey in the above clip was definitely Afronerd in the 80s (even with his leftist politics) but it also shows where he ( or I, dburt) is about to make the conservative turn. Twenty years ago perhaps I would have blamed a White bogeyman too-circa 2007, the responsible parties are now held accountable. No more ghosts or phantoms folks.
