Nappy Headed Hoes-1, Don Imus-0
It appears that radio dj, Don Imus is up to his old racist tricks again. Why this story took more than 24 hours to make the rounds remains a mystery. During the womens NCAA game between Rutgers and Tennessee, Imus referred to the Rutgers team as being "nappy headed hoes." In a further description of the match-up, Imus and his colleagues also stated that the players reminded them of the "jiggaboos versus the wannabees"-a direct reference to Spike Lee's School Daze. Well, if you haven't figured it out, Imus is definitely a mentally disturbed and deficient person, however as I have stated countless times here at Afronerd, our cultural standards have reached such an all time low, that we have given racists the comfort to spew their venom. And to top that, many womens sport figures are not the paragons of femininity. I would also like to see some kind of distinction between male and female athletes, which is difficult considering what Imus witnessed-mannish, tattooed women. Does it give him the right to refer to the players in a disrespectful manner? No. But we must admit that having a lower tier, ghettoized image be the default aesthetic for blackness makes it difficult to combat racial animus.
