*Hip hop producer Marley Marl suffered a heart attack on Tuesday (June 5) and is currently in stable condition at a New York hospital, according to published reports.
Koch Records is confirming the news regarding the 44-year-old artist, born Marlon Williams in Queens, NY. But as of press time, reps at the label would not release any further information.
Marl is one of the founding members of the Juice Crew, a hip hop collective that featured Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap, MC Shan and Biz Markie, among others. The legendary producer also founded rap label Cold Chillin’ and produced hits for such artists as LL Cool J, Eric B & Rakim and TLC.
Marl’s latest release is titled “Hip Hop Lives,” an answer to Nas’ album, “Hip Hop Is Dead.” Both artists hail from the Queensbridge Projects.
Released last month, “Hip Hop Lives” is a collaboration with Marl’s former rap rival KRS One and marks the first time the two have come together since their infamous rap Queens vs. Bronx battles during the 1980s.
