Merry Xmas To All Our Supporters (and hell, our detractors as well) from Afronerd.....Another One Our Greats Passes-Oscar Peterson
Merry Christmas to all our readers and let's pray for a productive (and less dysfunctional) new year. I would be remiss if I didn't acknowledge and pay homage to the great Jazz pianist, Oscar Peterson who died from kidney failure on the 23rd of this month. It seems to be a constant theme on our blog that as we point out some of the aberrant transgressions that are taking place in communities of color, we also try to ring the alarm that our culture is literally eroding before our very eyes with no end in sight. Peterson, whose beginnings reach back to Canada, was a preeminent jazz pianist who held court with some of greatest jazz musicians of our time-i.e. Ray Brown, Coleman Hawkins, Milt Jackson, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Clark Terry, Anita O'Day, Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Getz were his associates just to name a few. Lets try to honor and revere our culture and African-American traditions while we can folks-time is promised to no one.
