Time for a Misidentified rapper moment!

I have to give many thanks to the blogger, Undercover Blackman for providing the inspiration for this Afronerd segment. I think we will make this a regular point of reference on our blog, just as Undercover has a weekly misidentified Black person section on his site. I have noticed on quite a few occasions, that African-American singers are often misidentified as rappers by major media outlets. This indignation happens for several reasons:

1) Sloppy research-if one were really doing the due diligence, it would easy to find out what kind of music an artist is doing. Simple.

2) Subtle racism-Black people only perform rap music, right? This is the statement that many people are making, when the misidentification process continues without rebuttle.

Case in point, check out an excerpt from a recent NY Post article regarding the notorious Ray J and Kim Kardashian sex tape:

May 1, 2007 -- MONEY talks for Kim Kardashian. The daughter of one of the O.J. Simpson team lawyers has dropped her suit against Vivid Entertainment over the release of her sex tape co-starring rapper Ray J., in exchange for $5 million.

If any of you guys come across a similar faux pas, please notify us at afronerdblog@ yahoo. Happy Hunting!
